Last autumn she went to Ghana together with 6 of her trust partners in order to get a first hand idea of the present developments as well as the required investments of donations on the spot.
Apart from building a new „Children’s Village“, which can be completed by the end of the year the donations from Germany also help to press ahead with the extension of the school as well as a hospital in Ayeniah. Thus, not only the children of OrphanAid Africa can attend school and have access to medical treatment, but these are also open to children and other inhabitants of villages in the area. The region around Ayeniah where the Children’s Village is situated had no infrastructure of such kind so far and many children had no chance to attend school. The OrphanAid school has by now been extended to 8 classes for which new rooms are urgently needed.
One of the most impressive highlights of this year’s visit to Ghana was the ascent of Ghana’s highest mountain: Mount Afadjato. Together with 39 children, volunteers and staff of OrphanAid Africa, the trust partners took part in the „World Aids Awareness Expedition“ by Joachim Franz» (www.waae.de). Joachim Franz whom Anja met personally two years ago during a change FACTORY project in Göttingen, is attracting world-wide attention for the „HIV/AIDS“ problem by his spectacular actions. 200 of the highest mountains of 200 countries will have been climbed in the course of this expedition by the end of 2009. As OrphanAid Africa» is very active in combatting HIV/AIDS in Ghana everybody was keen to take part in this project and act as the expedition’s sponsors in Ghana.
Anja Rüttermann» thanks the numerous donors and people interested who give continued attention to this commitment for the successful support of these projects from Germany.
Here she would like to express a particular Thank You to her colleagues and the change FACTORY clients who join her in this commitment.
